Frequently Asked Questions 

Q: What do I need to take part? 

A: You need to get hold of your meter readings for the last year. If you havent kept your bills dont worry, you can ask it to your netsuplier. Apart from that you just need the will to make small changes!

Q: How will you see if I have saved any energy?

A: There is a calculation tool on this website where you (or your energy master) can enter your meter readings. The tool will work out your savings and let you know the % change compared with last year.

Q: How often do I need to read my meter?

A: Ideally once a week, although you can enter the readings as frequently or infrequently as you like. The most important readings are those taken on december 1st when the challenge starts, and also on 30th March when it ends.

Q: How will you help me save energy?

A: Each month will be a different topic. We will give you tips and tools to help you via email or post, and will arrange special events, competitions and games to help you. You will also be given free gifts such as low energy lightbulbs, thermometer cards, and energy saving plugs to get you on your way.

Q: I have a friend who wants to take part but he doesnt use the internet.. can he still participate?

A: No problem. We can set up his user ID so his meter readings can still be put on the website, and we can communicate with him by mail and phone. 

Q:  Im interested in being an Energy Master... how much time will this take?

A: You will need to attend a short training session in order to be able to give advice to your energyneighbours. Once the challenge has started your duties shouldnt take you more than an hour a week.

Q: I think I have already done as much as I can to save energy in the home... is there any point in joining?

A: Quite often people feel they do a lot but there is still more they can achieve with support. We hope to give you some new and innovative idea on energy saving to help you save more!
