A small few steps

Dear Reader:
I found the low carbon workshops/talks in Ireland very interesting and they would really make you think before you purchase. I joined energy neighbourhoods in Inch, County Tipperary and we have our own neighbourhood called the Ragg.
We found that just by taking a small few steps and with the help of the energy monitor for a few weeks I could really see the things that made the monitor rise. So much so that I took a few basic steps to help our home along its way with Energy Neighbourhoods. I changed nearly all my bulbs to a energy saving 8W / 11W energy bulb from Aldi at Euro 2.99 each which was much cheaper than some of the more popular brands with prices varying from E6.50 - E11.00 per bulb and just by being more aware and not leaving lights / appliances on in rooms when not in use I have saved greatly on my first electricity bill since energy neighbourhood started, with a saving of over 400units. This bill had 1052units where as the previous bills were on average 1420 units. So thank you Tipperary Energy Agency for making us more aware and helping me on my way supporting a greener environment.
I think I might by a 'standby killer' now, so that I can turn off those appliances which are hard to reach at night. Things like my television and microwave are difficult to turn off so I will follow the low carbon workshop advice and buy one, I have just googled them and can buy one for Euro 12 and this could save me up to Euro 60 every year I use it!
