So what is a Energy Neighbourhood?

It is a group of 5 to 15 households who accepted the challenge to reduce their energy consumption by up to 20% in six months time.  The group would ideally live in the same neighbourhood or know each other from a club, society or residents group etc.  Each neighbourhood would have its own energy master - a householder who would hopefully lead the neighbourhood to glory!  The energy master was able to advise people on how to save energy and was there to collect the participants meter readings.  The energy master was given full training and provided with the appropriate tools to aid success.

What's in it for me?

  • Lower your energy bills for the rest of your life - fuel bills are soaring, by taking part in energy neighbourhoods the participants had the potential to save an average £100 every year.
  • Prizes - as well as monthly prizes the participants had a chance to win a trip to Brussels!
  • New skills -   confused by your energy bills, unsure of how you could make your savings? then this project was able to help.
  • New Friends - Social events in the local area, as well as a big party at the end with all the other energy neighbourhoods.

What help is available to help achieve the challenge?

  • An energy audit of each house
  • A detailed calculation of energy savings
  • Information and tips on energy saving, grants and free gadgets
  • Encourgaement and support from your neighbours the energy master as well as the energy advice centre.
